Stefan Göllner (Co-founder)

Stefan studied communications design with a focus on interactive systems at FH-Düsseldorf and has a long-term experience in the fields of design research and ICT innovation development as a academic researcher, interaction designer, trainer and inhouse consultant. He hold fulltime positions as a researcher at Academy of Media Arts Cologne (2007-2009), Telekom Innovation Laboratories & TU Berlin (Quality and Usability Lab, 2009-2011), University of the Arts Berlin (Design Research Lab 2011-2013). He planned and managed the development of community mapping platform Unortkataster and Handshake (Citizen Media, EU FP6). Since 2013 he works for Cologne based company Grassroots Arts and Research in EU Projects FI-Content 2 and FI-C3 (FP7). His interest is on the conception and design of digital tools and interfaces to enable new forms of collaboration, civic engagement, and collective self-reflection in urban contexts.

Martin Hesselmeier (Co-founder)

Martin received a Diploma in Communication Design from the Fachhochschule Mannheim, academy of arts and design Mannheim in 2002 and in 2007 a Diploma in Audio-Visual Media at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne as a postgraduate student and has since then been working for the EU-founded research project “Citizen Media” as a designer. He is also working as a creative director at Meiré und Meiré focusing on digital productions like installations and also digital tools for international brands like Neue Zürcher ZeitungAndy Warhol´s interview Magazin, MINI international iPad App, Jeff Koons virtual sculpture Garage Magazin and dornbracht culture projects. He exhibited experimental works at top-level cultural festival like Dis-locate Tokyo, Transitio Mexico City, Transmediale Berlin, File Festival Sao Paulo, Spectropia Riga, amber Istanbul, Tschumi Pavillion Groningen and others.

Andreas Steffens (Development)

Andreas joined the Act-Local Team in 2008 at Academy of Media Arts Cologne. Before, he received a diploma degree in Computer Science from the RWTH Aachen (Dipl. Inf.) with a focus on software engineering, databases and biomimetics. During his studies he founded his own software company, offering software development services as well as consulting. From 2004 to 2009 he participated in two European research projects as researcher and consultant.  His professional experience includes successful cooperations with many medium and big-sized companies (e.g. TomTom and eBay).
In 2014 Andreas joined the research group of software construction at the RWTH Aachen University as a PhD candidate. His research focus is on new ways to operate big software systems and the corresponding architectures.

Jan Kus (Development)

Jan joined Act-Local.eu in 2014. He is a developer and passionate entrepreneur and CEO and Developer at Railslove – a web development agency based in Cologne, Germany. Beside his activities at Railslove Jan co-founded hack.institute – an organization that produces corporate innovation events and community hackathons and formats like the “4 Hour Venture”, “Interactive Dating Game”, “DevHouseFriday” and many more in order to foster entrepreneurship, talk and create innovation, digital art and promote new technologies, connect likeminded people and play with cutting edge technologies.

Jan Kus is a developer and passionate entrepreneur. He’s CEO and Developer at Railslove – a web development agency based in Cologne, Germany.
Beside his activities at Railslove Jan co-founded hack.institute – an organization that produces corporate innovation events and community hackathons and formats like the “4 Hour Venture”, “Interactive Dating Game”, “DevHouseFriday” and many more in order to foster entrepreneurship, talk and create innovation, digital art and promote new technologies, connect likeminded people and play with cutting edge technologies.
He’s owner of hackers & thinkers – a small venture company based in Cologne.
2010 he co-founded the first Coworking Space in Cologne called “Gasmotorenfabrik Köln” and is founding member of “Dingfabrik e.V.” – one of the first Fablabs in Germany.
Jan Kus is also co-founder of Interactive Cologne – a festival for the creative digital natives – where he’s responsible for the craziness.
He’s is also an active member and organizer of following non profit organizations: Dingfabrik e.V., Köln API, CoderDojo Cologne, Webmontag Köln, RailsCamp Germany
